Located in the heart of the Church-Wellesley neighbourhood, close to a vibrant restaurant-bar scene and steps away from both of the City’s major subway lines, Carlyle recognized the potential of 33-37 Maitland Street and acquired the properties in 2022. The site, including two existing heritage buildings, was in a prime location for high-density, mixed-use development. Carlyle proposed a modern high-rise residential tower that incorporates and cantilevers over retained portions of both heritage buildings. After a series of successful mediation discussions with City Staff, City Council approved the site for a 62-storey development in October 2024. Once completed, the density achieved in this project will help address Toronto’s urgent need for more downtown housing in close proximity to rapid transit and includes both rental replacement and affordable rental units.
